Life’s a Soak: Oregon’s Top Hot Springs You Can Visit Year-Round

In the evergreen wilds of Oregon, we are blessed with a wealth of natural hot springs. These steamy escapes pepper the landscape from the snow-capped Cascades to the rugged eastern deserts, offering rejuvenation and adventure throughout the year.

1. Bagby Hot Springs

Nestled deep within the Mount Hood National Forest, Bagby offers a unique rustic retreat with three bathhouses comprised of hollowed-out logs. Remember, weekends can get busy, so a weekday trip might offer more tranquility. And don’t forget, it’s pack-in, pack-out, so take care of our beautiful forest and bring a trash bag.

2. Umpqua Hot Springs

Perched high in the Cascade Mountains overlooking the North Umpqua River, these geothermal pools offer breathtaking views year-round. Be prepared for the short-but-steep hike up to the pools. And while the upper pool is the crowd-pleaser, look around – there are multiple pools scattered downhill.

3. Cougar Hot Springs

Hidden away in the Willamette National Forest, Cougar Hot Springs is also fondly known as “Terwilliger Hot Springs.” The series of five soaking pools, cascading downstream, make you feel like you’re in a fairy tale. And fair warning, clothing is optional; so do as the locals and don’t act surprised.

“Experience Oregon’s wild serenity by soaking into these top thermal wonders, accessible year-round. Nothing says ‘authentic local vibe’ more than the geothermal warmth of our backyard hot springs!”

4. Breitenbush Hot Springs

Located near Detroit, Breitenbush is a holistic retreat center complete with communal soaking pools, a steam sauna, and labyrinth. Be sure to book ahead, as a day visit requires reservation. And don’t miss their monthly events like music workshops and yoga retreats.

5. Alvord Hot Springs

Despite its remote location in the southeastern corner of the state, adventurers find respite at Alvord for its stark beauty and isolation. These desert hot springs overlook the expansive Alvord Desert and the looming Steens Mountain range. Be sure to have a full tank of gas before making this trip, and consider staying overnight at the nearby bunkhouse for the full experience.

6. McCredie Hot Springs

Just off Route 58, nestled between Eugene and Klamath Falls, these pools sit by the banks of Salt Creek. McCredie is a beautiful gem frequented by locals, with pools varying in temperature. Make sure to use sturdy footwear, as the river rocks can be slippery.

7. Bigelow Hot Springs

Also known as “Deer Creek Hot Springs”, this single-tub hot spring is tucked away on the banks of the McKenzie River. The spring is cooler than most, making it perfect for a summer soak. And don’t miss the stunning Sahalie and Koosah falls just up the highway.

8. Snively Hot Springs

In the southeastern corner of Oregon near Ontario, Snively is a lesser-known spot perfect for a quiet retreat. The hot water flows into a natural rock pool on the Owyhee River. Remember, summers here can be scorching, so be sure to pack plenty of water and sunscreen.

9. Paulina Lake Hot Springs

In the Newberry Crater, two miles from the ten cabins available for rent, you’ll find a handful of steamy (and free-to-access) hot spring pools along the lake’s north beach. But don’t forget your bug spray, Paulina is notorious for mosquitoes in warmer months.

10. Jackson Wellsprings

In the heart of Ashland, an artsy town in Southern Oregon, is this resort and spa. It offers a large mineral pool, hot soaking pool, sauna, and private tubs. And since you’re in Ashland, after your soak, head downtown to catch a show at the world-renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

No matter where adventure takes you in our beautiful state, these hot springs offer a chance to soak in Oregon’s natural beauty (literally). Just remember folks, as Oregonians, we’re stewards of this land – so pack out what you pack in, swim respectfully, and let’s keep our hot springs steamy and pristine for years to come.
